Coach Meyer, while coaching at Northern State University would have his players meet in the locker room to discuss what was happening basketball-wise during half-time and after the game. This players meeting took place before the coaches came into the locker room. I think it goes without saying, that a high level of trust needs to develop between the coaching staff and the players first. This idea oozes of Coach Meyer's leadership, in how he empowered his players.
Oftentimes, Coach Meyer would begin with asking players what thoughts they have, and great dialogue would ensue. I'd venture to say that the coaches learned just as much from the players as the players did from the coaches.
More on Coach Meyer later...
