The Free-Throw Factor

If a player shoots .78 from the line, this literally means that each FTA is worth .78 of a point. Each shooting foul would result in 1.56 expected points.

A player would have to shoot .52 from 3FG or .78 from 2FG to achieve this efficiency.

Have you analyzed how your team is getting to the line?

The Free-Throw-Factor is the best way to do this. In basketball, it is an unspoken golden rule that if you make more FT's than your opponent attempts, you will win the game. I always liked to know my team's FTF at the end of each quarter, which is one of the reasons I relied on real-time box score stats during games.

For those that use Hudl, by selecting the Lineup filter in the Reports section, then clicking on the FTF column head (it will reorder by highest percentage to lowest percentage), you can evaluate which of your lineup combinations is getting to the FT line the most often.

While scouting opponents, breakdown their player's FTF, therefore you can learn how they are drawing fouls. Typically, if a post player has a high FTF, then they are probably a load inside, with plenty of scoring touches. If a guard has a high FTF, you'll be able to prepare how to defend their rim attacks, which is a sure-fire way to increase your FTF.
